WHAT IS THE AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER?

Autism is the prototypical disorder of generalized developmental disorders (PDD) or what is today called Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It belongs to the neurodevelopmental disorders that are a group of affections that appear at the beginning of the development for the personal, social, academic or occupational functioning.

ASD is a syndrome, since its implications is a combination of excess and deficits that alter neurotypical development, transforming into a different and peculiar functional system, ie organized in a different way than usual.

It is characterized by a deficit in social interaction, deterioration in communication and patterns of behavior that restrict the child’s functionality, autonomy and independence. These occur before the first 3 years of age.

Early detection modifies the picture, since the sooner a problem is detected, it is possible to act immediately and therefore the measures we take will be more effective to improve the neurodevelopment situation.
